From the lane the house reads almost black — charred batten, volcanic stone. Step inside and it turns: teak, rattan, linen, and light arriving from two sides of nearly every room.

Inside

The living rooms have no fourth wall.

Sliding panels fold away until the seating, the long table and the garden are one continuous room. The floors are dark polished timber; the sofas sit deep and pale against them.

The table

One long table, two ways to sit at it.

A single dark timber table on a jute rug, cane-backed chairs down either side. It faces the pool one way and a planted courtyard the other — so lunch and dinner are never quite the same room twice.

The rooms

Every bedroom opens onto something green.

Glass on two sides, timber underfoot, a terrace or a courtyard just beyond. Woven ceilings, stone side tables, and planting close enough to reach from the bed.

Outside

Water, in two temperatures.

The jade lap pool runs the full length of the deck. Beside it, raised a single step, a smaller spa pool with jets set into its rim — loungers and an umbrella at the edge.

Arrival

You come in over water.

Stone slabs cross a dark reflecting pond beneath a slatted ceiling, carved figures standing either side. The noise of the road stops at the gate.
